Setback for Lyon as Rytting Kaneryd suffers ACL injury

Swedish international Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, Lyon's recent signing from Chelsea, ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament during training.

Olympique de Lyon announced a serious injury that will significantly impact their squad. Swedish international Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, who recently joined from Chelsea after four years with the English club, suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament during a training session yesterday.

The 29-year-old midfielder will undergo surgery, though the club has not disclosed an estimated return date. An injury of this severity typically requires a minimum of six months recovery time. This marks the third anterior cruciate ligament rupture in Rytting Kaneryd's career, following injuries at age 15 and again in 2018 when she joined Swedish side Rosengard.

The timing is particularly difficult for Lyon, who also recently signed Salma Paralluelo under manager Michele Kang. Rytting Kaneryd's absence comes just before Lyon's first preseason friendly against Real Sociedad, according to Mundo Deportivo.
