Hermoso leaves Tigres to return to Atlético Madrid

The Spanish forward ends her stint with the Mexican club after sixteen months and confirms her return to the Colchoneros.

Jenni Hermoso has officially announced her departure from Tigres Femenil after sixteen months in Mexican football. The club confirmed the news on Saturday, with the player herself breaking down in tears in a video posted on social media: «I'm leaving Tigres very happy about everything I've experienced, but also sad, of course, because I don't like saying goodbye, even though I know it's the best thing that's happened to me in my life».

As we reported, the forward now returns to Atlético Madrid, closing a homecoming that marks the end of her Mexican chapter. Hermoso had joined Tigres in January 2024 after eighteen months with Pachuca, where she had gained experience in the local league.

A successful career despite the scandal

At 36, Hermoso leaves behind an impressive record: World Cup champion with Spain in 2023, she has played for major European clubs including FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. Her legacy in women's football is undeniable, though marked by the Luis Rubiales incident, when the former Spanish Football Federation president kissed her without consent during the World Cup medal ceremony. That episode sparked an international crisis in Spanish football and led to Rubiales' removal from office. In February 2025, a Madrid court found him guilty of sexual assault.

With this departure, Hermoso closes a cycle in Mexico and aims to continue competing at the highest level in Europe.
