Ibai Gómez returns to his past: Andorra's challenge in preseason

Real Zaragoza faces Andorra today in a friendly that marks Ibai Gómez's return to his former club, where he was sacked last season.

Real Zaragoza plays its third preseason friendly this afternoon (18.30) at the Ciudad Deportiva against FC Andorra, a Second Division rival that promises to be the toughest test so far for the Aragonese side. After a win against Utebo (2-0) and a surprising defeat to Barbastro (1-2), Ibai Gómez's charges are looking to regain positive feelings.

This match carries special significance for the Basque coach, who reunites with his former club. Ibai managed Andorra last season after being chosen by Piqué, but his spell in the Principality was brief: it started well but things went wrong quickly, leading to his sacking mid-season. Carlos Manso took over and managed to keep the club in Second Division, according to Sport.

On the sporting front, Zaragoza's squad will have most players available, including Sergio Escuder, who recovered from the scare to his knee after the Barbastro match. Adrián Liso will also have chances to get minutes under his belt, though the academy product is expected to leave in the coming days. Although the result is merely an anecdote in preseason, a positive return would be important to validate the work done since the start of summer preparation.
