Ipswich complete Ouattara signing from Strasbourg

The 20-year-old Ivorian midfielder joins on a five-year deal after making 45 Ligue 1 appearances.

Ipswich Town have confirmed the signing of midfielder Abdoul Ouattara from French side Strasbourg. The Ivorian, aged 20, has penned a five-year contract for a reported fee of £17 million, as reported by BBC Sport.

The deal reunites Ouattara with Gary O'Neil, who managed the midfielder at the French club last season. Ouattara expressed his excitement: "The Premier League is the best league in the world and as soon as I knew the opportunity was there, to play in England under a manager I have already enjoyed working with, I jumped at it."

A versatile talent for O'Neil's project

During his time at Strasbourg, Ouattara made 45 appearances in the French top flight and featured in the side that reached the UEFA Conference League semi-finals. O'Neil praised the addition: "Abdoul is a talented young player who can play in different positions, so is a very good addition to our squad."

With this arrival, Ipswich complete their eleventh significant signing since securing promotion from the Championship, having spent £124 million in the transfer window. The club will kick off their Premier League campaign at home to Sunderland on 22 August.
