Jacquet scores on debut as Liverpool beat Como in pre-season

French defender Jeremy Jacquet marked his Liverpool bow with a goal in the Reds' 2-0 pre-season win over Como at Anfield.

Jeremy Jacquet had a dream start to his Liverpool career. The 21-year-old defender, signed from Rennes in February, scored in his debut for the club in the Reds' 2-0 victory over Como in their final pre-season friendly at Anfield.

Gakpo sets the tone

Cody Gakpo had opened the scoring for Andoni Iraola's side, and it was the Dutch winger who provided the assist for Jacquet's tap-in just before half-time to double Liverpool's lead. The young French defender impressed throughout his appearance before making way for Ronald Araujo at the interval.

Unlike their trip to Monaco a week earlier—when Liverpool squandered a two-goal advantage—there was no slip-up this time. Como offered little resistance in the second half, and Liverpool controlled proceedings comfortably without needing to fully stretch themselves, according to Sky Sports. The Italian side had more of the ball after the restart but posed no real threat to a solid defensive display from the hosts.
