Jaissle arrives at Newcastle: what to expect from the German coach

Matthias Jaissle is now at Newcastle after arriving at the club's pre-season training camp in Spain this weekend. The 38-year-old German coach signs a four-year contract until 2030 and becomes the Premier League's second-youngest head coach, according to BBC Sport.

In his announcement, Jaissle stressed that his teams are built on "togetherness, hard work, intensity and passion to improve every single day". The German faces an immediate test: his competitive debut will be against Liverpool on 23 August. Although he has never managed in the Premier League, he won silverware in Austria with Red Bull Salzburg —reaching the Champions League semi-finals in 2022— and back-to-back Asian Champions League titles with Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia.

His philosophy aligns with what Eddie Howe left behind: high pressing, physical intensity and quick transitions. Jaissle will demand excellence in training, as former Salzburg midfielder Zlatko Junuzovic recalled: "If someone wasn't giving it their all, he'd call you out on it". He inherits a rejuvenated squad following the departures of Isak, Tonali and Gordon, but will rely on experienced figures like Dan Burn and Fabian Schär.
