Jaissle officially named Newcastle head coach

The 38-year-old German completes his move from Saudi Arabia's Al-Ahli to replace Howe.

Matthias Jaissle is now officially Newcastle's new head coach. The 38-year-old German has formalised his arrival from Saudi Arabia's Al-Ahli, where he won two Asian Champions League titles, according to The Guardian.

Jaissle has been working with his new players at the training camp in La Manga since last Saturday, though Al-Ahli took time to release the necessary paperwork. The German arrives to replace Eddie Howe at St James' Park with just two weeks before the season starts, facing a challenging situation: Newcastle have lost three key players this summer in Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, and Bruno Guimarães, who is joining Arsenal.

"When Newcastle United come your way you take notice," Jaissle said. "The ambition of the club, the vision for the future and the exceptional platform to build on made this an incredibly compelling place to be. My teams are built on togetherness, hard work and a passion to improve every single day." The coach is confident in the squad's potential despite finishing a disappointing 12th in the Premier League last season.
