Jan Virgili completes Bruges move after PSG display

The Mallorca winger joins the Belgian club for €12m following a stellar friendly showing, with Barcelona set to pocket a tidy cut.

Jan Virgili has sealed his transfer to Bruges after a lightning-quick operation triggered Thursday following his stunning display in Mallorca's 3-0 friendly win over PSG on Wednesday. The 20-year-old winger, on loan from Barcelona, scored a spectacular goal and provided an assist, prompting the Belgian outfit—set for the Champions League—to trigger his €12 million release clause activated when the Balearic side dropped to Segunda División.

Mallorca pocket €7.2 million from the deal. Barcelona, who could have re-signed the player for that exact figure, will bank €4.8 million—the 40% sell-on fee they reserved when selling him a year ago. Combined, the Blaugrana will receive €8.3 million from a talent who never made an official first-team debut after a stellar run with the U19s and B team.

According to Sacha Tovalieri, a Belgian transfer specialist, Virgili was already flying to Belgium Thursday night and will sign until 2030 pending Friday's medical. Had Mallorca remained in La Liga, his release clause would have stood at €30 million.
