Kerolin joins Barcelona after failing to report to Manchester City

Brazilian forward Kerolin has completed her transfer to Barcelona from Manchester City on a deal worth an initial €1.2m (£1m). According to The Guardian, the move could rise to around £1.25m with add-ons, making it the largest transfer fee received by a WSL club.

The unusual aspect of the transfer is that Kerolin failed to report for pre-season training at Manchester City in July, before Barcelona announced her signing on Tuesday. Sources indicate that staff and players at the English champions were disappointed by what they perceived as efforts by the Brazilian to force the move. She also did not say goodbye in person to her teammates after winning the WSL title and FA Cup last season.

For Kerolin, it represents a dream move to the European champions, who won last season's Women's Champions League. While Manchester City have no objections to the transfer in principle, they were taken aback by her absence from pre-season fitness testing.
