Leeds set to complete Elvedi signing for £8.5m

Leeds United have agreed a deal with Borussia Mönchengladbach to sign Swiss defender Nico Elvedi, according to BBC Sport. The transfer is worth £8.5m: an initial £6.8m with a further £1.7m in add-ons.

The 29-year-old is travelling to England for a medical on Monday, the final step before making the move official. It marks the end of an 11-year spell at the German top-flight club. Elvedi brings considerable experience with 73 caps for Switzerland and featured in this summer's World Cup squad.

Farke's caution and squad changes

Leeds manager Daniel Farke remained measured after a 4-0 pre-season win over Augsburg. "I've been working in football long enough to know everything is only final once the medical checks are completed," he said, though he added: "I don't want to lie, and we expect something to happen in the next 48 hours".

Elvedi's arrival paves the way for Sebastiaan Bornauw to join Hamburg on a loan deal with an option to buy. Leeds begin their Premier League campaign away at Nottingham Forest next Saturday.
