Luis Llopis says goodbye to Real Madrid

Luis Llopis, at 61 years old, has decided to close a chapter spanning nearly two decades at Real Madrid. The goalkeeping coach has rejected the offer presented by the club to stay, though outside the first-team setup, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The arrival of José Mourinho as the new manager has been the turning point. The Portuguese coach brought N uno Santos with him, someone he has worked with in previous projects, which left Llopis out of plans for both the academy and the reserve team. After reflecting on the proposal, the coach decided not to accept.

Nearly two decades of legacy

Llopis joined Real Madrid's academy in 2005 and stepped up to the first team in 2015 under Zinedine Zidane. His time at the elite level was interrupted in 2018 when he moved to Real Sociedad, but he returned in 2021 with Carlo Ancelotti and remained in the role until now. He also worked with Xabi Alonso and Arbeloa at the helm.

Llopis announced his departure through social media with an emotional message: "Incredible to live it and feel it. THANK YOU. @realmadrid". Thibaut Courtois was among those who responded, writing: "Thanks for everything mate".
