Lukaku refuses to join Napoli preseason

Everything suggests Romelu Lukaku has no future at Napoli. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Belgian striker refused to report for preseason training with the team in Castel di Sangro this Wednesday, prompting the club to grant him additional days off.

The 33-year-old forward is contracted to Napoli until 2025 earning 11 million euros annually — a substantial salary given he has become a backup to Rasmus Hojlund. Lukaku arrived at Napoli from Chelsea in August 2024 for 30.7 million euros.

MLS side Atlanta United has expressed interest in signing him, though the American club is unwilling to meet Aurelio De Laurentiis's asking price of 10 million euros for the Belgian international. A departure seems inevitable, but the financial gap remains a hurdle.
