Lyon's Belgian midfielder will move to the Spanish club on a straightforward loan deal, with Getafe covering more than half of his wages.
Orel Mangala is leaving Lyon for Getafe on loan. The 28-year-old Belgian midfielder will join the Spanish side on a straight loan with no purchase option, according to L'Équipe, pending final details to be wrapped up in the coming hours.
Mangala was scheduled to undergo his medical in Madrid this Thursday. The club will shoulder more than half of the player's salary, significantly easing Lyon's financial burden this season. The Belgian earns monthly wages comparable to captain Corentin Tolisso, a legacy from the John Textor era.
The move is part of Lyon's efforts to offload high earners after bringing in six players this summer. Mangala, a Belgian international, joined Lyon from Nottingham Forest in February 2024 and has a contract until June 2028.
