Mbappé scores on Real Madrid debut

The French forward netted after 6 minutes in a 3-0 friendly win over Schalke 04, his first match since the World Cup.

Kylian Mbappé wasted little time proving why Real Madrid signed him. On his debut, the French striker opened the scoring after just 6 minutes against Schalke 04 in a pre-season friendly that ended 3-0, per L'Équipe.

It was Mbappé's return to action after more than a month away, following the France-England World Cup clash. Presented by new Real Madrid manager José Mourinho, the 2018 world champion started and made an immediate impact: he intercepted a poor defensive pass from Ron Schallenberg and beat Loris Karius to put the hosts ahead.

After his early goal, Mbappé showed his hunger for more: he squandered two further chances (shots on 12 and 13) but turned provider with precision, finding teammates. Dean Huijsen and Vinicius failed to convert his assists before half-time, when the side already led 2-0 thanks to Huijsen's header from an Arda Güler corner.

Mbappé rested after the break, as did Ibrahima Konaté, making his Real Madrid debut following his move from Liverpool. After the interval, Carles Espi sealed the rout (3-0, 57') with his first goal in white.

Real Madrid now faces its real test: on Saturday they travel to Barcelona to face Espanyol in the La Liga opener.
