Metz signs Savanier on free transfer

FC Metz have officially announced the signing of Téji Savanier as an experienced reinforcement in midfield. The 34-year-old playmaker arrives on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at Montpellier, where he made 210 appearances with 50 goals and 38 assists.

According to L'Équipe, Metz president Bernard Serin confirmed the move at a press conference: «It's a pleasure to strengthen the team with a player of such quality and such an appealing personality». Savanier has signed a one-year contract with an optional second season and will wear the number 10 shirt, vacated by Gauthier Hein following his move to Nice.

Savanier himself explained his decision: «I spoke with the president about a week ago. He talked to me about the club as if it were my family, and that touched me. Several Ligue 1 teams and Saudi Arabia clubs showed interest, but if you don't feel good somewhere, it's not worth signing there».
