📷 MARCAMonchi: "We won't overpay out of desperation; 2-3 signings are needed"
Espanyol's sporting director rules out excessive payments and confirms the squad needs between two and three new signings before the market closes.
Monchi appeared on Pericos en Radio Marca to assess the Espanyol situation a week before the start of the 2026-27 season. The blue-and-white club's sporting director acknowledged his good adaptation in Barcelona and rejected being pressured: "Not everything can be controlled. What we won't do is overpay out of desperation."
Regarding the squad's status, Monchi estimates its current configuration at between 70% and 75% of its final form. "A minimum of 2-3 players would have to arrive," he stated. Although he admits available room ("not to go crazy, but there's room"), he insists on doing things with criteria. As for potential departures, he's clear: if someone is still here by August 31st or September 1st, they'll be respected and will continue as a squad player.
Monchi also distanced the club from several names circulating in the market, such as Jeremy Arévalo or Felix Udoakhai, which he called "just more names of the thousands they tell us every day we'll sign." The relationship with owner Alan Pace is working correctly, with direct communication.
