Monga picks City over Arsenal in debut appearance

Jeremy Monga has begun his Manchester City journey after turning down a firm offer from Arsenal. The 17-year-old took the pitch in City's 3-1 friendly victory against a K-League XI in Seoul, where he came close to an instant impact during his half-hour cameo with a disallowed effort.

The English midfielder, who cost City £10m, told BBC Sport his choice was straightforward: "It was the pathway and the club. With all their success, it was a no-brainer when City called. When I get my chance, I just need to show myself." Monga, who made his Premier League bow with Leicester aged 15, opted to pursue his dream of winning trophies at one of the world's biggest clubs.

Despite his age, the Coventry-born talent brings Championship experience from last season's 30 Leicester appearances, calling the division a "dog-eat-dog world" where defenders give "less time and less respect." A boyhood Chelsea supporter who idolises Eden Hazard, Monga is determined to replicate the Belgian's directness and ball manipulation in his own performances.
