Mudryk returns as Chelsea falls to Juventus in Hong Kong

The Ukrainian winger made his first appearance in nearly two years after resolving his doping case, coming off the bench in a 1-0 friendly loss managed by Xabi Alonso.

Mykhailo Mudryk made his long-awaited return to competitive action, stepping onto the pitch for Chelsea in their 1-0 friendly defeat to Juventus in Hong Kong. The winger came on as a substitute in the 82nd minute, replacing Nicolas Jackson, according to The Guardian.

Mudryk had been sidelined since November 2024 after testing positive for meldonium, a banned substance. The 25-year-old Ukrainian successfully resolved his case with the Football Association and was cleared to return. His comeback was an emotional moment at Kai Tak Sports Park, where 43,575 fans cheered as teammates applauded his entrance.

Manager Xabi Alonso praised the significance of the return: "It was emotional for everyone at the club to see him back. After such a long period away, being back on the pitch was a great feeling for him." Despite a lively cameo on the left wing, Mudryk could not prevent defeat. Edon Zhegrova settled the contest with a brilliant long-range strike in the 68th minute, curling the ball into the top corner.
