📷 Mundo DeportivoMumin bolsters Girona's defensive line
Girona officially announces the signing of Abdul Mumin as a free agent. The Ghanaian centre-back signs a three-year deal until 2029.
Girona have secured the defensive reinforcement they desperately needed. The club officially confirmed the arrival of Abdul Mumin, who joins on a free transfer and commits for the next three seasons until June 2029. The 28-year-old Ghanaian centre-back becomes the solution to one of the squad's biggest weak points after the summer departures.
Plugging the gap
Girona's defence had been severely depleted in the summer market. David López and Alejandro Francés were the only established centre-backs, and manager Quique Álvarez had spent weeks publicly demanding new defensive reinforcements. Young prospect Holmes Junior covered the needs during pre-season and the league opener against Leganés, but Mumin's arrival brings the experience the coach was chasing.
Elite-level experience
Mumin, standing 1.88 metres, stands out for his physical power and commanding presence in duels. He spent time at Rayo Vallecano from summer 2022, accumulating over 60 official matches in La Liga—a track record Girona hope to leverage in their immediate bid to return to Spain's top flight. He also boasts international credentials: he made his Ghana debut in June 2024 and was called up for the 2026 World Cup, according to Mundo Deportivo.
His signing follows the recent arrival of Unai Hernández and leaves the door open for further defensive strengthening before the transfer window closes.
