Rafael Obrador will continue his career in Serie A. The Spanish full-back, who came through Real Madrid's youth academy, is heading to Sassuolo on loan from Benfica, as confirmed by the Portuguese club on Friday.
The deal between both clubs includes a purchase option, allowing the Italian side to make Obrador's move permanent if both parties agree.
Limited impact in Lisbon
Obrador, 22, joined Benfica a year ago from Madrid for five million euros but struggled to break through with the 'Eagles'. In his first season, he managed just one appearance with the senior team and two more with the reserve squad. He was subsequently loaned to Torino, also in Serie A, where he again failed to establish himself.
The Majorcan began his professional career at Mallorca aged just 16 before joining Madrid's academy. Before heading to Portugal, he impressed on loan at Deportivo de La Coruña, where he showed promise as a full-back.
