Phillips returns to Sheffield United on City loan

The English midfielder comes back for a season-long spell after a mixed previous spell at Bramall Lane.

Kalvin Phillips rejoins Sheffield United on loan from Manchester City for the full season, according to BBC Sport. The 30-year-old midfielder had a difficult spell at the club in February, making just three appearances before suffering a knee injury and receiving a red card in the Steel City derby.

Phillips is keen to make amends for his previous stint. "This was the move I wanted. My time was spoiled by my last game and the injury after that so I'm here to put that right," the England international told the club website. The former Leeds man arrived at Manchester City in 2022 for £45m but has struggled for minutes at the Etihad.

Boss Chris Wilder is pleased with the agreement: "Clearly, there has had to be a degree of patience to get a deal completed. Make no mistake, this is a good deal for the football club." Both the player and club have stayed in contact throughout the summer to make the move happen.
