Both parties confirm the end of their collaboration after a year marked by injuries and limited appearances for the midfielder.
Paul Pogba and AS Monaco have made their contract termination official on Wednesday. What had been widely expected for weeks is now confirmed: their one-year adventure comes to an end.
The 33-year-old midfielder has barely been able to contribute on the pitch. According to L'Équipe, Pogba played just six matches in a Monaco shirt since his arrival, when the Principality club signed him hoping to restore a World Cup winner to his best form. However, recurring injuries and his inability to return to elite performance have derailed that project.
A frustrating return
From the start, the club made clear it was a calculated risk. As Thiago Scuro, ASM's sporting director, explained in the joint statement: "It was a major challenge and a bold, ambitious bet, though the outcome wasn't what we hoped for". Nevertheless, the executive praised his positive influence in the dressing room and his contribution to the club's younger players. Pogba, for his part, expressed his gratitude: "Even though I haven't played as many matches as I hoped, I will always be grateful for the opportunity to wear these colors".
Originally, his contract ran until 2027. The club informed him weeks ago that the adventure would end. Pogba will remain at the club for now to recover from his injuries and can use the training facilities.
