Racing and Athletic reach agreement for Agirrezabala's transfer

Racing and Athletic have reached a definitive agreement for the transfer of Julen Agirrezabala, according to MARCA. The 25-year-old Basque keeper will join the Cantabrian club immediately, pending only his medical examination to complete the operation.

The negotiation has been led by Chema Aragón, Racing's sporting director, who made a public ultimatum days ago warning that the signing was unfeasible under Athletic's initial terms. The move worked: within hours both clubs renegotiated and reached an agreement that includes a buyback clause in Athletic's favor and a percentage of future sales.

Agirrezabala arrives after a complicated season at Valencia, where he was loaned out at Corberán's request. He started as a regular but a meniscus injury sidelined him, and upon his return he lost the starting spot to Dimitrievski. The keeper, an international with Spain's youth teams and Copa del Rey 2024 winner with Athletic, is seeking a move aware that it will be difficult to displace Simón in Bilbao.
