Real Madrid to register Diomande at Castilla to free up squad slots

The Ivorian defender arrives today in Madrid for medical tests. The club will use the same administrative workaround as with Mastantuono to manage squad registration limits.

Yan Diomande's transfer is progressing as planned. The RB Leipzig defender arrives in Madrid today to undergo medical checks ahead of signing as a Real Madrid player, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Once medical clearance is complete, Real Madrid will employ an administrative strategy to optimize its roster: registering the Ivorian at Castilla. Since Diomande hasn't yet turned 20 (his birthday is November 14th), the club can register him with the B team without using one of the 25 first-team squad slots. The same approach used last season with Franco Mastantuono.

This tactic is backed by article 145 of the RFEF Competition Regulations, which allows players under 23 years old registered in lower categories to play for the main team. Crucially, the operation—valued at around €130 million—will still count toward the first team's salary cap limits, despite this alternative registration.
