Reine-Adélaïde injured on return after a year out

Jeff Reine-Adélaïde experienced a bittersweet return to competitive action. The 28-year-old French midfielder played his first official match in nearly a year with Heracles Almelo in the Dutch second division, but was forced to withdraw injured just over 20 minutes into the game.

Misfortune struck the former Lyon player once again. According to manager Vincent Heilmann in comments to ESPN, Reine-Adélaïde felt pain in his Achilles tendon, another setback for a footballer who has already suffered three anterior cruciate ligament ruptures in his career (in 2019, 2021, and 2025). «He felt discomfort in his Achilles tendon, it's really very unfortunate. Not just for him, but for all of us», Heilmann lamented.

The coach said that during pre-season training «he was fit, full of energy and training well», but warned that the extent of this new injury «at first glance, doesn't look good». Reine-Adélaïde had previously played for Molenbeek and Salernitana before joining the Dutch club, seeking to regain stability after his recurring physical problems.
