Riestra keeps Cuenca option alive for Sporting

José Riestra, Sporting's executive president, is not ruling out Cuenca. During the club's visit to the International Fair of Samples in Asturias on Tuesday, the Sporting chief suggested the operation still has legs and a resolution could be imminent. "Maybe there's news before this interview ends," he said on Cadena SER.

The Levante striker is one of Sporting's two priorities in this final stretch of the window, alongside a left-footed centre-back like Jorge Cabello. Riestra acknowledged it has been a long and complicated summer: "We've made great efforts and come close, but this is a matter of willingness and everyone has to want it." The president recalled that not long ago he was convinced a number nine would arrive, but the deal fell through when the player chose another project.

With promotion as the major goal in their fifth year under Orlegi Group management, Sporting remains active in their search for offensive reinforcements. Riestra also highlighted fan support, with 23,600 season ticket holders, a figure very close to the club's all-time record.
