📷 MARCARoig targets three consecutive Champions League campaigns with Villarreal
The club president is confident in the new squad and Iñigo Pérez to deliver a better European campaign than last season.
Fernando Roig is excited about the project beginning this season at Villarreal. The club president, who celebrates three decades leading the yellow submarine this campaign, has set ambitious targets in both the league and Europe, according to MARCA.
Roig highlights the squad improvement compared to last season, with the return of Carlos Romero—whom he considers La Liga's best full-back last term—and the promotion of academy players to the first team. On new coach Iñigo Pérez, he states: "it's very exciting, a young and hardworking coach" who, alongside his technical staff, will lead the team to "good results".
Regarding objectives, Roig is ambitious: "We've been in Champions two years running. It's a very important target, and even better if we can make it three consecutive years." However, he remains humble, knowing that "the most important thing is to stay in La Liga." The president also takes pride in the academy's legacy: 20% of Spain's World Cup-winning squad, including Rodri and Alejandro Bena, grew up in Villarreal's Ciudad Deportiva.
