Salah arrives at Trabzonspor in hero's welcome

Mohamed Salah joins Trabzonspor as a free agent after nine years at Liverpool, greeted by hundreds of fans at Istanbul airport.

Mohamed Salah has officially completed his transfer to Turkish side Trabzonspor following his departure from Liverpool after nine seasons. The Egyptian captain, 34, received a star-like reception as he landed at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport on Wednesday, mobbed by hundreds of supporters while wearing his new club's colours.

Salah leaves Merseyside having scored 257 goals across his nine-year spell. His final campaign was marked by reduced playing time following a falling out with manager Arne Slot, despite contributing 29 goals to a Premier League title win. As a free agent, Trabzonspor were able to commit significant wages without a transfer fee.

According to BBC Sport, the Turkish club will hold an official signing ceremony at Papara Park on Thursday at 17:30 BST. Negotiations with Besiktas had previously broken down over financial terms. Salah will compete in European football next season, with Trabzonspor qualifying for either the Europa League or Conference League depending on playoff results. This marks the biggest transfer in the club's history.
