Hull City cancels Cho transfer from Nice at last minute

Real Sociedad will have to wait to receive the money it was already counting on in its financial projections. The transfer of Mohamed-Ali Cho from Nice to Hull City, which appeared virtually done and was only pending a medical examination, has been suspended at the last moment. According to L'Équipe, the British club, hit by a wave of injuries that has forced it to restructure its spending priorities, has abruptly cancelled an operation valued at around €20 million.

The sudden halt directly impacts Real Sociedad's finances. When the club sold the French forward to Nice in January 2024 for ten million fixed plus two in variables, it secured 15% of any future profit from a resale. Had the Hull City transfer gone through, the profit would have been ten million euros, bringing the Basque club a direct cut of around €1.5 million.

Real Sociedad's sporting direction was looking to maximise returns on a player who never quite settled in San Sebastián. Cho arrived as a promising prospect but underwhelmed: in his first year he managed just two goals and three assists in 24 matches, while in his second season he barely featured, appearing in 16 games without scoring or assisting. Now it remains to be seen whether the deal can be revived or another buyer emerges before the market closes.
