Sow leaves Sevilla for Genoa for €4 million

The Swiss midfielder closes his Sevilla exit after activating his release clause with Italian Genoa.

Djibril Sow became Genoa's latest signing this Thursday after activating his release clause from Sevilla, according to Mundo Deportivo. The Italian club will pay just €4 million for the player, a figure well below the €10 million paid for him three years ago.

The deal was made possible after Sevilla agreed to lower the clause last summer when they proposed reducing Sow's wages to facilitate new signings. The midfielder, who reached the World Cup quarter-finals with Switzerland, left the squad's concentration in the Netherlands to travel to Italy for his medical tests.

Sow bid farewell to the Sevilla fans with an emotional social media message. "It's very difficult to say goodbye to a club and place like Sevilla," he wrote, adding: "I wish the team and all of you the best and hope joy returns to the Sánchez Pizjuán." Meanwhile, Sevilla are negotiating with Sporting CP for the signing of Georgian midfielder Giorgio Kochorashvili as a replacement.
