Tenaglia makes history as LaLiga's opening goalscorer

Alavés centre-back scores the season's first goal after 74 minutes in a low-scoring affair against Getafe.

Nico Tenaglia, Alavés centre-back, has written his name into history as the first goalscorer of LaLiga 26/27. The Argentine defender opened the scoring at Mendizorroza after 74 minutes in a tight contest against Getafe.

Numerical advantage makes the difference

According to Mundo Deportivo, the goal came from an attack down the right flank. Mariano delivered the cross from that wing, and Tenaglia, finding space thanks to Alavés' numerical superiority, buried the chance past Soria. The extra player on the pitch allowed the Basque side to impose their physical strength and exploit the spaces on the wings.

The goal brought relief to the home side in a match where goals were at a premium. Mendizorroza erupted as their defender became the unlikely hero to kick off the new season's scoring.
