Tomiyasu joins Crystal Palace after successful trial period

Takehiro Tomiyasu is officially a Crystal Palace player. The 27-year-old Japanese defender, who had been without a club since rescinding his contract with Ajax in late June, has successfully completed his trial period with the London club over recent weeks.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Tomiyasu becomes the second signing under new manager Pierre Sage —who replaced Oliver Glasner— following central defender Óscar Mingueza's arrival from Celta. Palace sought defensive reinforcements after Maxence Lacroix departed for Chelsea.

The Japanese full-back and centre-back, who featured at the World Cup with his national team, returns to the Premier League following his stint at Arsenal between 2021 and 2025, when he left due to a knee injury. The club has not confirmed contract length. "This is where I wanted to be," Tomiyasu stated, highlighting Palace's strong recent form with three trophies in two seasons.
