Trafford completes Leeds move from Manchester City for over €46m

James Trafford is leaving Manchester City to join Leeds United. According to The Athletic, the English goalkeeper has passed his medical and is set to sign with the Yorkshire club for a fee close to €46 million, plus add-ons.

A substantial investment for a shot-stopper who, despite earning 2 England caps and being third-choice for the 2026 World Cup, has served as backup to Gianluigi Donnarumma at City across both Premier League and Champions League competitions. Trafford came through Manchester City's academy before excelling at Burnley between 2023 and 2025, where he featured in a Championship season and then a top-flight campaign under Vincent Kompany's management.

City paid €31.2 million last July to bring the goalkeeper back, but now allows him to leave for regular playing time. At Leeds, he will compete with former Lyon keeper Lucas Perri, who saw his minutes reduce as last season progressed.
