Trafford leaves City for Leeds for £45m: Britain's most expensive keeper

James Trafford is now officially a Leeds United player. The 23-year-old English goalkeeper leaves Manchester City in a deal that could reach £45 million with add-ons, according to Mundo Deportivo.

With this fee, Trafford becomes Leeds' record signing and breaks the record for the most expensive British goalkeeper ever, surpassing Jordan Pickford, signed by Everton for £30 million in 2017. Only Kepa Arrizabalaga (£68 million) and Alisson (£62 million) command higher fees across Europe.

The shot-stopper's arrival at the Etihad just one season ago (from Burnley for £27 million) was quickly overshadowed when Pep Guardiola signed Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG on the final day of the summer window. Trafford made just 17 appearances for City, mainly in domestic cup competitions, and spent the latter half of the season on the bench.

Traffford's departure opens the door for Manchester City to complete the signing of Gerónimo Rulli, the 34-year-old Argentine goalkeeper from Marseille, whose move is described as very close to completion.
