Getafe's Nigerian striker suffered a major knee injury after Mawissa's reckless tackle in the Monaco friendly.
The season has barely started and Christantus Uche is already facing the worst news. The Getafe forward suffered a severe knee injury during the friendly between Monaco and the Madrid side (1-0) last Thursday, following a tackle by Christian Mawissa.
According to AS, Uche has a "very serious right knee injury that will require surgery" and will be sidelined for the rest of the season. The impact was so violent that the Nigerian had to be evacuated on a stretcher after the contact with Mawissa, who was sent off immediately.
Mawissa quickly responded via Instagram: "I sincerely apologize for the injury I caused with a poorly controlled tackle. I had no intention of hurting him and I'm deeply sorry for the consequences. I wish him a good recovery and keep him in my prayers," wrote the Monaco defender.
