Van de Ven close to renewing Spurs deal

Micky van de Ven is close to agreeing a new five-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur, according to BBC Sport. The Netherlands international defender had questioned his future at the club in north London, but the arrival of Roberto de Zerbi in March proved decisive in his decision to seek fresh terms.

Van de Ven, 25, joined from Wolfsburg in 2023 on a six-year deal running until 2029. «It's really good that you can see the club has made some changes,» the player told BBC Sport in July. «You can see the club has a new ambition. It's something really important for players who have been here for a long time».

The defender stressed that last season was «stressful» and «unacceptable» as Tottenham finished 17th in consecutive Premier League campaigns. With De Zerbi now in charge, Van de Ven is optimistic about what lies ahead: «It's going to be different. We'll be playing offensive football, something we needed because everybody was a little bit down».
