Belgian midfielder Axel Witsel, 37, completes his move to Nice after leaving Girona as an agent libre.
Nice have officially announced the signing of Axel Witsel. The Belgian midfielder, 37 years old, joins the Aiglons on a free transfer from Girona, where he made 32 appearances last season, according to L'Équipe.
Witsel has signed a one-year contract with Nice, plus an optional extra season. His arrival is a significant boost for the squad, who have been dealing with the serious injury of Laurent Abergel for the past two weeks and needed reinforcement in midfield.
Experience at the top
The Belgian international, known as the «Red Devil», boasts an impressive résumé: spells at Standard Liège, Benfica, Zenit, and Borussia Dortmund are among his career highlights. He remains in good form, having played 30 minutes in Belgium's World Cup quarter-final against Spain in Qatar. Nice continue to strengthen their squad: they recently presented Nathan Ngoumou (26) from Mönchengladbach, while negotiations for Elye Wahi remain on hold.
