Young French striker Cagliari suffers no apparent neurological deficit following swimming incident and ICU hospitalization.
French striker Yael Trepy has regained consciousness following a swimming accident on Sunday in Sardinia. Cagliari confirmed the news on Tuesday night, stating the player had "shown complete restoration of consciousness with no apparent neurological deficit," according to the Italian club.
The 20-year-old footballer was admitted to the intensive care unit at Sassari Hospital after the aquatic incident. Dr. Stefania Milia, director of the ICU, explained that mechanical ventilation was discontinued after optimizing respiratory exchange, with the patient extubated on Tuesday afternoon.
Recovery underway
Trepy remains hospitalized in intensive care "due to recent extubation and lung condition resulting from aspiration syndrome," though progress is encouraging. Since joining Cagliari's youth academy in 2023, the striker was promoted to the senior team in February this year, making 8 appearances and scoring one goal.
