Aguirre’s Valencia contract adds a year if they qualify for Europe

Valencia are on the verge of finalising their next coaching appointment: Javier Aguirre. According to Marca, the club accepted the key point the Mexican manager insisted on, including a second year of his contract conditional on sporting results.

A second season depends on it

The deal, already largely settled despite the fact that the paperwork is still unsigned, sets an initial term until 30 June 2027. It also contains an automatic extension for an extra season if Valencia qualify for Europa League (at least) at the end of the campaign.

Opening the Nou Mestalla with Europe

In the club’s view, after seven seasons out of European competition, turning the page in the Nou Mestalla with the team playing continental football was an acceptable requirement. With that in place, both sides are confident the final signature can happen this Sunday, or no later than Monday, as Marca explains.

While the contract details are being finished, Aguirre is already shaping his staff. The team includes Toni Amor as assistant coach and Pol Lorente as fitness coach.

Lorente is free to join

Marca adds that the Mexican Football Federation announced this Saturday that Pol Lorente is leaving the senior national team, ending his two-year stint in the federation structure. With that, his move to the project in Mestalla is now cleared.

Aguirre’s arrival has gathered pace after the recent stance of sporting director Braulio Vázquez, who identified the Mexican as the priority to replace Carlos Corberán following Ernesto Valverde’s refusal, as Marca reports.
