Aitor Fernández throws doubt over Osasuna’s goalkeeping

The performance has become a clear reference point after a rough patch for Osasuna. Prior to this, the team had already struggled in defence, conceding five vs Alavés and two vs Espanyol in their previous two league games. In that context, Luis Miguel Ramis made adjustments, including a change in the goalkeeping setup.

Now, part of the fans want Aitor to keep the spot and to play again as a starter on Saturday against Rayo Vallecano. Mundo Deportivo also notes that the goalkeeper wore the armband as captain and got his first Liga start this season.

At 35 years old, Fernández is in his fifth season with Pamplona and remains under contract until the end of the season. Last term, he had far less time on the pitch: Alessio Lisci turned to him in matchday 35 after Sergio Herrera was sent off against Levante, and he only started one more game—again, against Atlético.

After the game, Fernández summed up his frustration on TV rights, saying: "Trabajas para esto y te llevas cuatro, no vale de nada". He also pointed to what the team needs to fix: "Tenemos que cerrar la sangría de goles en contra, porque así es difícil". With that, and the renewed calls from the stands, Ramis faces a straight decision between sticking with Herrera or backing Aitor again, per Mundo Deportivo.
