Araujo heads to Liverpool to finalize his loan

Ronald Araujo starts a new chapter in his career this Sunday. The 27-year-old Uruguayan defender is flying to England this weekend to wrap up the final details of his loan to Liverpool, according to Mundo Deportivo. The Anfield club needs him urgently: they have a significant injury list and only Virgil van Dijk available as a center-back in the short term.

The agreement between Barcelona and the Reds was sealed early Friday morning. It's a loan for the 2026-27 season with an option to buy for 55 million euros. Hansi Flick, Barcelona's coach, confirmed that Araujo also understood he needed "something new" after not getting the playing time he expected at the Catalan club. The manager said goodbye praising him as "a great person and a great player".

Before making it official, Araujo will need to pass his medical and complete standard registration procedures. Andoni Iraola is desperate to have him: the Premier League kicks off in just over two weeks and Liverpool's defense is battered.
