Levante and Athletic will reschedule after abandoned match

Levante and Athletic Club will now have to agree a new date for the suspended match against each other, which was called off this Wednesday before kick-off. As MARCA reports, the game was stopped after a storm flooded parts of the stadium and left the pitch unplayable.

The teams ruled out playing it on Thursday because it would disrupt the running of the next league round. For that reason, the plan is to slot the fixture into one of the European matchweeks before Christmas. If the clubs cannot reach an arrangement, MARCA says it will fall to the Liga and RFEF bodies to decide when the match will be played.

Line-up changes with few limits

A key detail is that the suspension allows the coaches to reshuffle the line-ups with minimal constraints. For the rescheduled date, all players will be available to be changed with hardly any limits, provided they were registered and free of disciplinary bans as of 16 September, according to the outlet.

Athletic’s travel logistics

MARCA also notes that the Athletic’s travel plan was not affected by the call-off. The club had already decided against returning immediately in order to rest. Instead of flying back right after the match and landing at Foronda—Loíu closes overnight—the team stayed in Valencia and returned the next day, training at midday on Thursday at Lezama.

This was the first match of the campaign away from San Mamés for Jon Uriarte, who led the trip to Valencia after missing the exits to Barcelona and Celta, as MARCA adds.
