Baena: “Oviedo are strong, but we are too”

Ángel Baena, the new “10” at Sabadell, spoke ahead of the game against Oviedo and made the attitude clear. The Catalan winger said that while his opponents are a good side, Sabadell feel they can match them: “El Oviedo es un muy buen equipo, pero nosotros también. Baena also underlined the importance of sticking to the team’s level after a strong start. He stressed that the key is not to change anything: “Hemos empezado muy bien el año y la clave es seguir igual”. In the same vein, he added that he had been eager to return home after years away from Catalan football.

Ferran Costa, the deciding factor

He explained how his move to the Nova Creu Alta came about. According to his account, he initially planned to stay in Poland because he still had a contract: “Al empezar el verano tenía claro que me iba a quedar en Polonia porque tenía contrato en vigor. Fueron pasando las semanas y surgió alguna opción en España. Hablé con Ferran porque ya nos conocíamos y me convenció para venir aquí”, MARCA writes. The piece also notes that Baena and Costa had already worked together in the Damm set-up as player and coach during the cadet stage.

From first minutes to a new start

Ferran Costa had previously said Baena was the kind of player Sabadell needed, and he gave him chances early. Baena made his debut after more than half an hour in the 3-2 win over Córdoba, then started in the 2-0 defeat to Mallorca, Sabadell’s first loss of the season. Now, with “many desires to return home”, he comes back to Catalonia after a spell in Poland where he contributed with goals and assists for both Wisła Kraków and Widzew Łódż.
