Marc Cucurella’s participation in Real Madrid’s Champions League opener is up in the air after he was taken off late in the match against Real Betis due to cramps, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Catalan full-back had been edging ahead in the starting role over Álvaro Carreras, but the issue in the closing stages has raised doubts ahead of the European game on Tuesday against Inter Milan. It comes after Real Madrid suffered their first loss of the campaign.
A late setback
Mundo Deportivo adds that, at least initially, nothing indicates a serious problem—but the situation is complicated enough to threaten his availability for the Inter match. The team returns to training this Sunday, and that’s when the coaching staff will likely assess whether Cucurella can make the squad.
At the same time, the club already has several other absences to manage. Mundo Deportivo says the list has been growing:
- Tchouaméni, Militão, Rodrygo, Mendy and Endrick as injured players (with a chance for either the French midfielder or the Brazilian forward to be ready in time).
- Güler, Bernardo Silva and Camavinga as suspended.
With all that, Cucurella’s uncertainty adds another layer of pressure on Mou for a match that feels pivotal: after the setback vs Betis, Real Madrid need to bounce back quickly in a high-stakes European fixture.
