Alavés terminates Maras' contract with disciplinary dismissal

Alavés rescind the Serbian defender Nikola Maras' deal via disciplinary dismissal after detecting voluntary underperformance.

Alavés has ended Nikola Maras' time at the club with a disciplinary dismissal this Thursday. According to MARCA, the Vitoria outfit justified the decision on a report that uncovered «a manifest, voluntary and sustained decrease in the player's normal or agreed work performance».

The Basque club relied on technical and tactical data from platforms like Wyscout, physical performance metrics from SkillCorner and training behaviour records via Catapult and WIMU. Maras was notified of the investigation and given a chance to submit his defence, though none of his claims altered the club's decision.

The Serbian fullback closes his spell in Vitoria in the worst possible manner. He arrived on loan from Almería in 2022 with a mandatory purchase clause if the club achieved promotion, which happened via the playoffs. Since then he has barely featured in three matches, all in the Copa del Rey, and has been loaned out to Levante, Sporting and Mirandés.
