Man United Muslim supporters group demands Ratcliffe ‘must go’

The Manchester United Muslim Supporters Club (MUMSC) has made its position clear, urging the exit of co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe after comments he made in an interview with the BBC. The group reacted to his remarks against immigration levels and his claim that the country is “on the slide”. MUMSC argues that the stance is not only socially unacceptable, but that the club’s lack of meaningful progress under the current ownership has left them without confidence.

According to the report, Ratcliffe said in the interview that the UK is declining due to a mix of high taxes and high immigration. The article also notes that he previously apologised for language that “offended some people” after saying the UK had been “colonised by immigrants”. In February, United responded by stressing that the club “prides itself” on being inclusive, while BBC Sport cited a source close to the Glazer family suggesting they were “horrified” by Ratcliffe’s initial remarks and saw them as showing “disregard” for ownership.

Social debate and the tone

In its statement on Saturday, MUMSC said the comments left it deeply disappointed. It claims Ratcliffe again centred immigration and people receiving benefits when explaining Britain’s problems, arguing that nobody is “tough enough” to deal with either. “We find these latest comments deeply disappointing and completely unacceptable,” the group said.

Ownership pressure goes beyond the pitch

The statement also makes a broader point about United’s makeup, saying players, staff, stewards, security teams and supporters come from different countries, cultures, ethnicities, religions and backgrounds, and that this diversity is part of the club’s identity. On top of that, MUMSC lists wider concerns—higher ticket prices, a stadium allowed to deteriorate, and a team that it says continues to fall further behind.

MUMSC therefore calls for change and adds that the Glazers and Sir Jim Ratcliffe “must go”, concluding that after years of decline and repeated failure it has lost confidence in United’s current ownership structure (BBC Sport).
