Sevilla return to training without their internationals

Luis García Plaza leads a session missing call-ups and injured players; the side now turns its focus to Aston Villa in the Antonio Puerta Trophy.

Sevilla FC returned to training this Monday at the club’s training ground after their last Saturday defeat to Barcelona at the Sánchez-Pizjuán and a free Sunday, with Luis García Plaza in charge. With the league break underway, the session was carried out without a number of internationals who are away on duty.

No call-ups available

As Mundo Deportivo reports, Odysseas Vlachodimos, Gabriel Suazo, Giorgio Kochorashvili, Robbie Ure and Arouna Sangante were absent, with the latter joining his national team for the first time. They are joined by Fran González, who was called up for Spain U21, and Nico Guilén, with Spain U19.

Injuries and workload

The squad also trained without Rubén Vargas, dealing with knee discomfort, and Lucas Stassin, who has a torn adductor. Kike Salas remained out of the group as well, though the expectation is that he will be able to return to full training this week. The starters from the Barcelona game did recovery work, and García Plaza had to top up the session with several academy players.

Sevilla head into the break in fifth place with 13 points and “very good” feelings, according to the outlet. Next up is the Antonio Puerta Trophy fixture against Aston Villa, coached by Unai Emery, scheduled for 2 October, as part of their build-up to the resumption of league action.
