Villarreal closes Thiago Fernández's loan to Levante and prepares Kambwala's exit, with Osasuna in the picture.
Villarreal continues reorganising its squad ahead of the upcoming season. According to MARCA, following Thiago Fernández's imminent loan to Levante, the next departure will be Willy Kambwala's.
The Argentine's move stems from bureaucratic reasons: without an EU passport, the club would exceed its non-EU player quota, currently at four. Thiago, after a solid spell at Oviedo, preferred to stay in La Liga, and Levante fulfils those ambitions. The loan deal is set to be confirmed shortly.
For Kambwala, the exit responds to different factors. The 21-year-old defender played barely any minutes last season due to injury, and both club and player feel he needs regular football away from La Cerámica to maintain his development. Osasuna emerges as the leading option, though other alternatives are being explored. With Juan Foyth's return, Villarreal now has five centre-backs, making Kambwala's loan departure seem imminent.
