Ferran Torres hits form at PSG: brace vs Rennes on debut

Ferran Torres (PSG) burst into action almost immediately. He came on at half-time in the 2-2 draw at Rennes on 23 August, and scored a brace in his first League 1 outing. Since then he’s added five more goals, reaching seven in all competitions this season.

In Spain, the reaction has been strong. Andrés Onrubia, Paris correspondent for AS, says he expected Torres to need more time to adapt to Luis Enrique’s game, and admits he didn’t anticipate this “level so high.” Roger Saperas (RAC1) points out that at Barça he was used more in rotation, and in the last Champions League campaign he started only four times from 11 call-ups.

England and the World Cup

With Spain, the status shift is linked to the 19 July World Cup final goal vs Argentina. Onrubia sums it up as Torres “changing dimension”, while Saperas notes only Iniesta (2010) and him have scored goals like that for Spain. This Saturday (20:45), Spain face England again in the first round of the Nations League.
