Robinho Jr. heads to Serie A on loan from Santos to Genoa

Genoa have announced the signing of Robinho Jr., an 18-year-old Brazilian winger on loan from Santos with an option to buy.

Genoa have confirmed this Thursday the arrival of Robson Junior Guglielmetti de Souza, known as Robinho Jr., a Brazilian attacker who will take on Serie A football at the age of 18—his first professional experience outside Brazil, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The deal is structured as a loan from Santos, with an option to buy included. Before the move was finalised, the player passed the required medical and fitness tests, as reported by the same outlet.

A bet for the future

Trained in the Santos youth system, Robinho Jr. has recorded 38 appearances and four goals across professional competitions and the Brazilian Under-20 championship. Genoa, as noted by Mundo Deportivo, see the signing as a long-term investment and believe the right conditions in Italy will help him continue developing in Europe.

For Genoa, the next step is straightforward: integrate the youngster and assess him in matches, especially with an eye on whether the option to buy becomes the natural next move. It’s not framed as a short-term emergency acquisition, but rather as a move aimed at building a future project.

The story also carries extra interest because Robinho Jr. is the son of Robinho, the former Brazil international with a career that included Real Madrid, Manchester City and Milan, among others—context highlighted in Mundo Deportivo’s coverage.
